I was listening to "Still Crazy After All These Years" by Paul Simon and reading the Wikipedia page on it and realised just how much the song reflects Ugetsu. The first line has the mention of an old lover and I immediately thought of Akihiko. The second verse has the singer noting that he's "not the kind of man who tends to socialize", and we remember that Ugetsu had said before that he doesn't have any friends.
The most interesting thing about the song is the key. The song's first two verses are in G major, "the key of the third verse...is never resolved". The final verse is where the fun begins, G major returns but then modulates to A major, in the words of James Bennighof; "a faint sense of slightly demented triumph to the singer's declaration that he wouldn't be held responsible for his potential mayhem." That entire sentence just screams Ugetsu. We can see how much Ugetsu hurts Akihiko and it seemed like he always expected Akihiko to return no matter what, that he won't be held responsible for the way he hurt Akihiko.
I would try to analyse this more, but I'm no longer a music student anymore, I only play the clarinet as a hobby and when I was a music student, I barely passed the listening exam, HA! And to this day, my ears still can't tell cadences and keys apart unless I have the music sheet and a picture of the circle of fifths. I'll leave the analysis to other people because all I can do is read the Wikipedia page and quote it and, in my best attempt, relate it back to Given.
