i think the thing that a lot of people (including me! no shade) forget to include in southern gothic is the sheer isolation of it. you have to drive ten, twenty, forty minutes to get to the nearest town. everyone knows you but nobody understands you. you see no one but the people you live with. you walk for hours and see only power lines and the shimmers of heat. yeah. that’s the good stuff
