I started getting into writing in sixth grade. I believe my teacher asked us to write a short story, or maybe I just decided to write a story. Whatever the case, I had my first brilliant idea for a novel. That idea has not been touched in nearly six years, but it sparked something in me that will never be extinguished.
In middle school, my English teacher suggested Teen Author Boot Camp. My parents generously paid for me to attend this day-long conference every year until I left for a religious mission when I was nineteen.
Teen Author Boot Camp gave me motivation, skills, and connections that I would not have otherwise received. I attribute much of my skill, however much I may have, on what I learned from my years attending TABC. That, and reading. Soooo much reading. But, I hope that goes without saying.
My favorite author is Brandon Sanderson. If you haven't read his stuff, check it out. It's amazing. I aspire to be as much of a creative genius someday.
My favorite series has always been, and always will be, "Harry Potter." It was my gateway book, the series that taught me that reading was more than something I did at school.
My favorite book of all time so far is "Winter," by Marissa Meyer. It is the fourth in the Lunar Chronicles series, and it is a stunning finale that ties up everything into a pretty bow, as fairy tales should. It also doesn't hurt that possibly one of my favorite characters ever is Winter. Being inside her head is a delightful, and amusing experience.
I am a senior at Utah Valley University, and I'm working on the final draft of my debut. Stay tuned by following me on Instagram and Pinterest: @booksbycammorris
