In two days, the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v Wade and vastly expanded gun rights. Their reasoning for both? It follows the country’s “tradition” and has historical precedent. The damaging thing about this is that it prevents progress. According to them, any law that isn’t “deeply rooted in this nation’s history and tradition” is unconstitutional. I wonder if they are aware of the horrible things that people have done in America’s history in the name of tradition, because guess what else was in the original constitution? Multiple clauses supporting slavery. So, racism is constitutional, but requiring someone to have a reason for carrying a gun isn’t. I’m so scared that we’re going in the wrong direction.
