Occasionally, I still get messages questioning my “blackness” because of the way I write my characters. Though I’ve gotten better at deciding to ignore it, once in a while I can become frustrated. Because why does it matter whether I’m black or not? Black people come in many different colors, cultures, and characteristics. They don’t all act the same. I choose to write my characters with various personalities, that doesn’t make me any less black. And the fact that some people question it just says something about them. This is such a backwards way of thinking.

It’s refreshing to see black people written with different personalities yk? We’re not all badass, vixens (just an example) we can be sensitive, shy, bubbly, etc. That’s why I enjoy your books so much, they’re so fun to read! Anyways now I gotta go bite haters heads off

@caktwrites4u we love your work the way it is. I like that you write your characters not centered around the fact that they are black cause they are more than just black people and have personality. Thank you for breaking that narrative and continue doing so. Looking forward to more update :)

@caktwrites4u People are weird. Just keep being you. Write what you want. The imagination has no limits no matter who you are or where you come from. The limits just come from ourselves. Block the haters and keep thriving.
