friendly reminder that if you write about a character that is canonically LGBTQ+ in a way that changes their sexuality, you’re going to be viewed as homophobic! it doesnt matter if you’re “part of the community” or “it’s just fanfiction” or whatever excuse you use. it’s one thing if you genuinely do not know, which is understandable for a character like newt in TMR where it’s not stated in the books/movies (however, as the author has stated that he’s gay, please keep in mind that it’s canon!), but for characters like alec lightwood and robin buckley where their sexuality is a major part of their character development? seriously? there are a ton of characters who are straight/unlabeled. write about THEM or better yet, write the characters you claim to love so much accurately!!!! it’s not hard to make a male oc (or female if the character is lesbian). stop taking away from important representation! and stop victimizing yourselves when you’re inevitable called out for it!
