collect all apparatus and set up the circuit shown in the diagram with the rheostat at maximum and the switch off.
          
          turn the switch on and record the current I shown by the ammeter and the voltage V, shown by the voltmeter
          
          change the current and voltage reading using the rheostat to obtain 8 different readings over a wide range turn off the circuit between readings
          
          record all data in a table and plot a graph of voltage against current
          
          determine the gradient of the graph and hence the resistance of the resistor
