this is a bit late, but i've really been trying to understand and process everything that happened yesterday after the orlando shooting. its such a horrible incident that just thinking about it makes me repulsed, and the fact that i know people who are just blowing it off as "just another shooting" angers me to the point that i feel the need to explain just what our world has come to.
the question that most are asking right now is, who's next? but i believe that what we really need to concern ourselves us with is what is driving these people to do such terrible things. if we know the root cause, we can find a solution. and hate crimes like this are unbelievably hard for me to understand because of the severity of it all, but i'm really trying to understand so that i can make a difference.
why hasnt america taken steps to prevent this? why, when the shooter was already on the fbi watchlist, was he allowed to purchase guns? why, are we allowing this to continue?
and i'm american, i've lived here my entire life. i don't want to make it seem like i'm an american "hater" because i'm not. i love this country because it has so many great things. but what i don't understand is why we can't get over ourselves and take a look at countries that have been making it work. and its simply because we believe that we're the best country in the world, and in turn, the rest of the world is inferior. thats the answer i have come to, and its that we don't accept solutions from others because we believe that we are superior.
