Well, he ends up making a contract with the Devil, so he can be safe with the Apprentice somewhere far away from the Masquerade and the ritual. The Devil takes them both to a magical version of Nopal, where they live and stay for who knows how long. Asra begins to obsess and love the idea of him being totally alone with the Apprentice to the point they don't even recognize the faces of Muriel, Aisha and Salim reflecting in a pond near their house, somehow connected to the real world. They forget their loved ones and live forever alone trapped in that version of Nopal, not remembering something other than each other.
