A few months ago, I posted a lot of bookish content on my Instagram pretty consistently for three weeks. The engagement was pretty good and I was over the moon when an author reached out to me, wanting to send her book to be reviewed.

          It fed my moderately instant gratification. Of course I said yes, and the book was good (just not my taste). While I was elated, this made me come to the conclusion that I don’t want to be forced to read books and obligated to review them simply because I don’t want to review a book for it to come off as harsh, at least not publicly. I realised I don’t want to identify as a reviewer. I love recommending books, but I read like max 3 books a month compared to the 10 books leading bookstagrammers read in four weeks. Moreover, the books I choose to read have less to do with the trending ones because I’m primarily a writer and I read books with an eye for prose. (Though I do admit, I get influenced to read so many booktok books I am not even ashamed.)

@chaashnee thank you so much. Also it is such a fangirl moment for me that you(my favorite author) is replying to me?? Oh my god it made me happy. :)

            And yes i engage with content on social media a lot. I religiously consume book recommendations reels, I like to watch/read what other readers or book reviewer share about the book they've been reading. Other media content that I find myself engaged in are cats videos/reels and art (Sketching, painting, etc).

@chaashnee
            I completely understand your previous resistance to the paywall concept.
            Even I was in the same position just a few months ago, or a year ago, when I didn’t fully grasp the idea either.

            The target audience for platforms like Wattpad or Scroll Stack has largely been and still are teenagers and college students, many of whom haven’t yet started managing their own expenses.
            However, over the recent times the eBook culture has grown significantly, and it's clear that authors need support. With more people now willing to invest in content, the culture around paid content has definitely evolved.

            Also yes engage with the social media content that authors share, like book snippets, reels, and spoilers, especially for books I’ve read or am currently reading. It’s amazing to see how much the writing community has embraced this kind of engagement.

@orphic2015 I will admit, I used to be a bit against the idea of the paywall because my target audience back then was the agegroup that did not make their own money. It did not sound plausible when I was offered to do so by different writing platforms. But now, I feel like we have all come a long way and recognize the efforts writers put in their works. I will check out scroll stack, thanks a lot!

            By content, I’m referring to everything. Even writing related reels that authors share nowadays.
