Chad Leat is a Tonganoxie, Kansas native who graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree. In March of 2018, he gifted his alma mater with a $1 million scholarship gift specifically aimed to support students who identify as LGBTQ (an initialism that generally includes individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transsexual, and/or queer).
