just wanted to stop by to give a few updates, seeing as i've been all but silent for the past five months.
          
          first, i wanted to let you all know that i will be stepping away from wattpad with all likelihood that i am going to completely leave by the end of this year. i'm graduating next spring, and as i go off to central asia to teach english, i am also seeking to focus on writing and publishing a project i've been drafting and revising for the past four years. to be successful and meet my professional goals, i feel i need to focus on reading and writing work away from wattpad and engage with writers in-person as opposed to online. however, if you would like to join me for that journey and keep in touch, might i recommend checking out my instagram @ellechaika? you can also keep connected with me via any of the other socials linked at the bottom of my bio or here: https://chaikovskiy.carrd.co/. <3
          
          also, as a result of that transition away from wattpad, i will be taking down some of my novellas including "novyye saints," "viktov lives!," and "the devil comes to angelovsk." so, if you want to get a re-read in or revisit certain characters/scenes, i would try to do so by this upcoming october. "scream, nightingale, scream" will probably stay up as a short sample. "novellas & new roast" will also remain since it is sort of a resource among the onc community.

          my other update is that i am going to be a little quieter and a little more sparse with my chapter posting because of what's going on in the world with ukraine and the usa. for those of you who don't know, i have heritage on my mother's side from ukraine. i am a slavic language and literature student because of it, and i set my stories in the east slavic area of the globe because it is a place where i have often felt the most safe, where i am most comfortable. but that peace has been again disrupted by recent events, including exchanges between the nations i am divide between. from negotiations to the marker of three years of war in my beloved ukraine, it's just a lot to take in. i need to step offline and take the time to reconnect with those who i am closest with, and the land i am connected to you. i hope you understand.

          i've drafted the first act (which includes the upcoming chapter v.) and it's sitting around 10k words. it's looking like this novella is going to be right at the onc's 40k limit, which means there's plenty of time to develop and play with the prompt's premise and its promises, so stay tunned <3

happy open novella contest to all of you and happy (belated) birthday to me!!
          
          i have decided to enter the 2025 onc with a pirate revenge based on prompt 110: "20 days of freedom." in the backdrop is also prompt 41: 
          at that moment, she realized she had to end the toxic relationship for good. she disappeared from the country, leaving everything behind to start fresh. for a while. she had relied on him just to survive, but now she knew it was time to break free and reclaim her life."
          
          here’s a little preview of the blurb/my wip idea: "sonja nehalenniasdóttir is finally free. after a daring escape from servitude and a sharp rise to first mate of the north sea's most notorious pirate crew, she's survived punishing storms, several double crosses, and even diffused a mutiny against the cunning captain strijk, to whom is she is unwaveringly loyal and utterly indebted. but when jan van der zee, her former master, begins hunting her, she's faced with a new challenge. a sea-spanning game is on, and freedom, revenge on van der zee, and a pardon for captain strijk are all at play."

          finally, i just wanted to formally announce my plans to publish ✨new work✨ in the upcoming months! i have another angelovsk/gorod krestov novella that i plan to share in full by the end of the year as well as part of a historical romance novel that has been brewing in the back of my brain for some time now. so stay tuned!! xx

it looks like my last announcement didn't post, but i finished "the devil comes to angelovsk" and submitted it to the onc round 3 form with 13 minutes to spare!!!
          
          at this point i'm sleep-deprived, behind in my classes, and honestly in need of a short break from wattpad. i wrote around 18,000 words/the last half of "tdcta" in a week, a feat that is impressive as it was daunting. but i did it! and now, to celebrate, i am going to get some rest and catch up before i come back to finish reading all the lovely entries i've been following and reply to all your comments on my own. 
          
          once again, thank you all so so much for supporting me during this year's open novella contest. this is my favorite time of the year on wattpad because of the community and the way it comes together to celebrate creativity. truly. there's nothing better.
