When you learn proper literary writing techniques, you will think it's nice, but it is not. Slowly, you lose yourself in the world of reality and forget how to enter the magical world of fiction writing. I think that is when the writer dies: when they think they are doing something that would make them a better writer, but ends up losing their magic.
