Hellooo! I was raised Christian, and I believe that there is a God. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I have always kinda had doubts about God, the truth of the Bible, and myself. I took it upon myself to really look deeper and really find out what people who say ‘homosexuality is a sin’ are talking about, and I just want to share my thoughts on the matter. This really helped me feel better about myself as a person and connect with God, and I hope any of you who feel the way I used to are able to feel more confident after reading this.
There is absolutely nowhere in older Bibles where it explicitly says that homosexuality is “evil” like most people say. In the book of Leviticus, there are two verses that were translated in most modern English bibles to say ‘a man shall not lie with a man as with a woman…’, but many scholars are debating whether this is actually the most accurate translation. The words and phrases used in the original Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic texts are somewhat unclear or rarely used, and though they were mainly interpreted as saying, ‘a man shall not lie with a man as with a woman…’, it’s possible that Leviticus was actually trying to say that ‘men who exploit other men’ or ‘male prostitutes’ are sinners/not allowed. Others who accept the more common translation think that it was a time-and-place specific cultural law, as it was listed with food/clothing rules.
