I just started The Summer I Won’t Forget, and even from the first chapter I can already tell you’re really good at writing quiet, emotional YA romance — the kind where the setting, the weather, and the little things characters don’t say matter just as much as the big moments.
I noticed this is Book Two and has 8 parts, so I’m only at the beginning, but I’m already interested in how you handle a sweet/wholesome romance without making it feel too simple. In my own YA story, I’m writing Lou and JJ — they have history from childhood, she hides behind jokes and overthinking, and he starts noticing the little details she doesn’t realize she’s showing.
Since your story also seems to work with emotions, past relationships, jealousy, and friends trying to push two people closer, I wanted to ask: how do you keep romantic tension soft and wholesome, but still deep enough to make readers feel like something real is at stake? And do you think it’s easier or harder when the characters already have history before the story begins?
