Hi I write two autistic characters for my book series and even if I watched videos of autistic people and tried to learn its symptoms I don't know anyone who has autism. And I'm really afraid I will wrote the characters inaccurately. Do you have any tips how to write a good autistic character?

@FournaiseLeNoir My entire family is Autistic too, so I might be able to help you from experience. Firstly, lots of people with autism/adhd have things they like to do to keep content and/or replenish their focus. This refreshing activity is called a "stimulus." My personal stimmie(my family's slang word for stimulus) is exercising my body, mostly my legs and vocal chords, by running, jumping, and making random noises. Other people's stimmies can include: listening to a certain sound (like rain, or my dad's personal favorite, a vaccum), chewing on something, moving their bodies, and so on. Perhaps you could write your character to have a physical stimulus, like biting/chewing on their tongue (like my mom does), or randomly shaking their head or another part of their body. I'm sure there are also mental stimmies that exist(, like spacing out on something), but most of my experience is in physical stimuli. Let me know if you'd like to hear any more Autistic Tips! But remember there are also a lot of articles and videos about Autism, made by people who can probably explain it a lot better than I can! lol -^v^-
