I don't necessarily think anyone will read my writing, much less this "about me" section, but thank you for being here - for seeing me. I grew up on the Southside of Chicago, and while my mom did all she thought she could to protect me from the violence, nothing she would have done would have saved me from the trauma I've had to endure. My mom is from Mexico City and came over at a very young age, my father is a self-denying/hating Mexican who says he's "only of Mexican descent." Both leveraged proximity to whiteness over our culture, which led to me being too Brown for the white kids and too "white" for the Mexican girls in high school. While I started my attempts at reconnecting with my culture in late high school, I think it was me practicing escapism to dream of a reality where I fit in somewhere. Anyway, my writing is primarily intended for Brown girls - to be a voice I wish I had.
