i am actually furious right now.
TWENTY-THREE YEARS since columbine and still NOTHING has changed.
eighteen CHILDREN are dead, three teachers. and what does gov. abbott do? nothing. thoughts and prayers. regardless of religion, I hope we can agree that that's not how this should go. how many children have to die before lawmakers get it?
i get that the right to bear arms is written in the constitution. but that was 234 years ago. in the words of emma gonzalez, "the guns have changed and the laws have not." and if we're going to reference documents written in a different millennium, the declaration of independence cites the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
I was seven years old when the sandy hook elemtary school shooting took place. I was seven years old when I stopped feeling safe at school. almost ten years ago, 28 people were killed inside school, a place that is supposed to be safe.
I can't with this country. what is it going to take for things to change? how many more children have to die for something to happen? at what point do we say that the second amendment is worth less than the lives of children?
I'm so angry. I can't even do anything besides repost infographics and scream at a wattpad announcements board. I'm so tired of having to fight for my right to be safe at school. I'm so tired of going to class everyday, wondering if this is the day it happens to me and my friends.
I'm sure it's obvious by now, but I'm an American high school student. I'm just so frustrated with the state of this country, one where whether or not I get to be safe at school is considered political. I live in the south, and am currently bracing myself for when my state legislators send "thoughts and prayers" instead of actually doing something about the epidemic of violence.

stay safe out there.
