because  they  /were/   .   emera  was  seriously  considering  this   .ᐟ   haruki  rin  was  the  person  they  were  closest  to   ,   something  akin  to  a  /sister/  of  theirs   .   the  two  had  come  a  long  way  since  they  first  met   ,   right   .ᐣ   and  she  /had/  been  right   ...  she  covered  for  the  rogue  on  countless  occasions  even  when  it  could  cost  her  her  /job/  if  anyone  was  to  ever  find  out   .
            
            didn   't   they  owe  her  /something/   .ᐣ   even  if  it  went  /against/  their  /morals/  .ᐣ

            the  thought  of  the  knight  being  potentially  put  on   /trial/  for  the  act  of  /treason/   ,   of   /murder/   .   it  had  them  tensing  slightly   ,   was  she  truly  willing  to  risk  everything  just  for  this   .ᐣ   come  to  think  of  it   ,   they  didn   't   even  know   /why/  she  was  doing  this   .   wasn   't   that  one  of  the  most  important  things  to  know  if  they  were  to  play  as  her  /alibi/   .ᐣ

this  was  wrong   ...   this  was  so  wrong   .   on  so  many  levels  was  this  /wrong/   .   their  best  friend  had  just  killed  someone   —   while  /off/   the  battlefield   .ᐟ   was  that  the  most  disturbing  part   .ᐣ   or  was  it  something  different   .ᐣ
            
            maybe  it  was  the  fact  that  she  was  asking  them  to  cover  for  her   .ᐣ   that  she  didn  't   show  remorse  about  it  .ᐣ   or  was  it  that  there  was  a  high  chance  she  had  done  this  /before/  .ᐣ
            
            they  couldn 't   even  begin  to  think  about  what  else  haruki  had  done , whether  now  or  in  the  past   ...   or  what  she  would  continue  to  do . and  to  be  honest , they  really  didn 't  /want/  to  think  of  it ... the  thought  alone  was  enough  to  make  them  sick  to  their  stomach . they  were  barely  even  comprehending  the  sight  before  them  now , barely  able  to  register  that  it  had  been  practically  made  clear  that  it  was  /no/  accident  after  all .
            
            ⠀⠀⠀there  was  a  lot  emera  could  put  up  with  morally , if  anything  they  were  one  of  the  /best/  people  to  go  to  in  regards  to  needing  an  alibi . because  who  was  the  /wanted/  rogue  to  deny  that  privilege  to  anyone  else   .ᐣ   perhaps  they 'd even  argue  that  in  some  cases , the  crimes  had  /deserved/  to  be  done , didn 't   the  nobles  have  enough  power .ᐣ
            
            but  this   ..   oh   ,   this  was  on  a  whole  other  level  and  they  /knew/  it . was  their  best  friend  basically  admitting  to  them  that  she  was   /guilty/  of  /killing/  someone .ᐣ for  no  /assigned/  reason .ᐣ that 's   sure  what  it  felt  like .
            
            there  was  a  knot  in  their  stomach  as  their  eyes  scanned  over  her , drifting  from  the  blood  splatter  to  the  scene  behind  them  to  the  maroon  hues  of  haruki . their  mouth  had  ran  /dry/ , really  not  wanting  to  confront  the  fact  that  they  may  be  agreeing  to  covering  for  her .

“then..” haruki takes a pause, a bloody hand coming up to mess with a strand of her long black hair. she’s silent for a while, eyebrows furrowing as she tries to figure / what / she would actually do if she got caught. “then.. then i will just / deny / it!”
            
            she soon nods to herself, satisfied with her own answer. it was / really / the only option she had at this point. “they can’t / prove / that i did it so i will simply deny everything until my name is cleared!”
