Silly question about faceclaims, how representative do they have to be?
I'm casting a family, and I've been looking around for an actor with an intellectual disability to play a character. I know that in the real acting world, casting diversely is not just vital, but necessary. But like, I can't find an actor who fits what I'm looking for with an intellectual disability. I could leave him as an uncast sibling, but that feels othering, like he's some monster that can't be played by anyone else.
Am I find to cast like, another actor who doesn't openly have an intellectual disability? It's not like he's actually speaking or playing the part. It's just his face, and people with intellectual disabilities look like just the rest of us. But I don't know. I'd feel ickier if I was talking about a physical disability, you know?
Alternatively, any one know of any white male actors (not reality tv stars or other famous people) in their late 20s/ early 30s with intellectual disabilities? Of course, I have way more detail about the family I can share, but meh for now.
