          Whenever the Doctor gets hurt, whenever he's lonely, whenever he's doing something and the TARDIS is in danger, whenever he was a peaceful day with one of his companions, or is simply visiting old ones, he parks the TARDIS and goes to someone (a human) who he knows he can trust
          
          I don't know why but I just find it nice to imagine the Doctor having this one human who rejects adventures and he feels safe knowing he can't destroy them. Or him coming to this human just to talk, explain how he feels or just to be humored. Think about the banter they have when the Doctor comes back with an injury ("You could treat it in the TARDIS, honestly you don't even need me!") and all the small things they do together, sharing the little bits about life that keep them grounded.
