Science fiction should be thoughtful with some relevance to today. Action stories simply set in a futuristic setting are OK for brainless diversion, like Star Wars. But stories that take society and technology of today and bring them to a logical conclusion are more important. "The Matrix" series started off well, but degenerated into "shooting and running" special effects movies. Most Hollywood movies do.

For novels, I recommend "1984", "Brave New World", "We", and "The Visitor". The last one is on this website.
