Hi loves. I know I have been a little MIA recently, but I wanted to explain a few things. Derek Chauvin, the police officer who knelt on George Floyd’s neck last May, was finally found guilty on all three charges, yesterday afternoon. While his sentencing won’t take place for another 8 weeks, this means that during that time he’ll be in jail (not prison). I am both glad that the justice system did the right thing for once, but I am also disappointed that it took this long to find him guilty.
For the next weeks, my hope is that the other police officers who killed a Black American will be put on trial and that those who lost their lives will get the justice they deserve. I know it is probably just a dream, but I think we need to continue to say their names.
I would also like to say that it’s okay to feel a bit overwhelmed right now. It’s okay to take a break from social media and focus on yourself. For anyone who would like to talk about how they’re feeling, they are welcome to message me.
I love you all so much. Remember it’s okay to prioritize your own needs right now.
