            i  feel  like  that's  not  the  inheritance  i  should've  been  gunning  for   :/     {  with  a  smile  that  clearly  speaks  of  her  enjoyment  at  the  attention  konnie  tilts  her  head  up,  letting  the  soft  touch  guide  her  more  than  a  few  memories  she  has  avoided  looking  at.  }   my  mom  had  a  backup  pair  for  me.  just  in  case  i  lost  my  contacts —  and  i  did.   had  to  wait  until  the  glasses  broke  before  i  could  get  more   :(      do  you  have  any  photos ??

            mhm.   yeah,  she  used  to  tell  me  stories  about  you  guys  before  i  went  to  bed.   {  absently  konnie  lets  herself  note  how  this  past  tense  is  no  longer  a  twisting  knife,  the  sharp  pang  a  relief  after  the  edges  crafted  to  perfectly  tear  her  tiny  heart  into  shreds.   although,   she  supposes,  it  helps  that  these  memories  are  fond.  }   she  liked  the  idea  that  i  could  know  you  and  dad  through  what  she  remembered,  y'know ??   ( .. )   but,  uh,   you  were  her  best  friend.   she  wanted  me  to  know  everything  about  you.   {  and  konnie  had  taken  hungrily  to  all  of  it,   taking  bite-sized  memories  and  hoarding  them  like  she  could  rebuild  her  family  from  these  scraps  of  what  was.   she  had  felt  guilt  for  it  then,   the  same  as  she  feels  now,  that  what  created  her  very  being  had  also  created  an  empty  space.   mom  would  have  hated  to  see  the  gap  that  it  had  helped  forge.  }    she  never  acted  like  she  knew,   but  she  wouldn't  have  taken  sides  anyway.
