@disneyintrovert I LOVE THAT YOU POINTED THAT OUT BECAUSE IT'S SO REALISTIC!!!!! he's gone through so much, lost so much, and continues to have to lose more. of course these things are gonna weigh down on him, and i love that they actually did that and didn't magically keep him as a happy-go-lucky kinda guy. it's beautiful and poignant and amazing and if i didn't hate writing essays, i would totally write one about the perfection which is merlin. and no???? i haven't???? i didn't even know what was a thing???? i'll definitely check it out!

            merlin's character development was my favourite, i could actually write a really shit but passionate essay about it - youre right, by season 4 and 5 he was no longer the same. this poor boy has been carrying the crushing burden of his destiny, the potential future he wish he didnt know about, the number of people he's had to kill to get where he is AND MORE for too long and his suffering was portrayed perfectly, my heart a c h e s

@disneyintrovert I KNOW RIGHT?!?! i am such a slut for good character development and just well rounded characters in general and merlin is exactly the reason why my standards are set so high. the characters all have their own charm and even if some of them are throwaways, they're really well established anyways! plus the relationships between every character seem realistic and complicated, which is exactly what any real relationship between people is. and they do it so gradually that you don't realise how much has changed until you look back. like. merlin in s1 was so lighthearted but by s5, i swear his smile is so much more rare??? it's absolutely heartbreaking but so so good!!!! and i totally agree! like, with torchwood, it was good overall (sans gwen) but some episodes i was iffy with, like the shoes ep with eugene.
            anyways. pretty much, merlin is a bbc and literary masterpiece that isn't praised enough and deserves so much more love. not just the writing/plot/directing, but the cast are amazing for being able to emotionally charge scenes and get us so invested!!!!! just!!!! oh my god i love merlin so so so so much
