Today, we're introducing @DavidEAnderson100 whose story "The art of breathing underwater" won third place on our 2021 Pride awards. A 2021 Wattys winner, this story follows the bipolar fifteen-year-old Aaron,  for whom growing up in '90s Dublin, being gay is a choice. It is a choice between risking alienation from his conservative Catholic family and close-minded friends or drowning under the weight of his secrets. So discovering he is falling in love with his witty, bi-racial best friend, Robbie, an aspiring actor, plunges Aaron into a sea of confusion. Swimming against the tide of expectations, the young men set a course through sex, drugs and Bowie concerts, an outlet from a world that doesn't understand them.

Good morning everyone! 
          
          As a way to celebrate pride this month, we are introducing you to @RowanCarver who won second place on our 2021 Pride award contest! Her book "King Eden" which won her the title is about King Eden, the Lord of the Aurelian district, one of many post-apocalyptic tribes of Earth's survivors. A centuries-old war ravages her homeland. The Ancients face the Martians, a greedy society of wealthy refugees who outlasted Earth's apocalypse on Mars. Their biodome colonies have become unsustainable, and their Minister vows to claim the Earth for his people's sake. He will stop at nothing to bring King Eden's reign to an end.
          
          When the Martians capture her son, Eli, King faces a devastating choice: rally her forces and attack the Martians at the expense of her soldiers and her people's security, or abandon her country to rescue him, breaking her vows as a Lord. Imprisonment, execution, and the annihilation of her tribe are just a few of the consequences she faces if she fails.

Happy second day of pride everyone! 
          
          As a way to celebrate this month, we are introducing you to our this year's first prize winner @empiresofwater whose story titled "Leeward" won our 2021 Pride Award contest! 
          
          Katie has graduated from a history degree recently, and loves to write historical fiction with a dash of fantasy and horror. Katie's story, Leeward, is a queer historical adventure set on the Caribbean seas during the early 19th century. It follows Captain Hiram Nightingale after his grand victory at the Nile, a victory which has cost him a great deal. He transfers to Antigua where he is tasked with hunting down a mutinous ship called the Ulysses. 
          
          You can find other historical novels on their page which include queer representation such as "True colours" set in the 1796, around the War of the First Coalition or "Home Shores" which is a Leeward short story set in the year 1803. These stories explore asexuality, and MLM relationships, and are a great way to get into some queer historical fantasy!
