VICTORY! For the first time, the Supreme People's Court of China has prohibited discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in judicial proceedings, including incorporating these terms in written form into legal protections against discrimination.
The ruling recognizes that insults and humiliation for these reasons can lead to penalties and compensation, that companies cannot discriminate in hiring, firing, or the work environment, and that schools can be penalized for bullying against LGBTQIA+ students.
The Court stated that it will continue standardizing decisions on the rights of these minorities and will include human dignity and personality rights in the training of judges.
