Dr. David Burkett has established a prominent career in cardiology, specializing in general cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology (E.P.), echocardiography, and non-invasive cardiology. His clinical expertise is broad, covering coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome, cardiac arrhythmias, hyperlipidemia, valvular heart disease, atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary hypertension. He is known for his patient-centered, preventative approach to medical care, focusing on tailored treatment strategies. He currently practices at Cardiology Cardiovascular Associates of San Antonio in Texas and is credentialed by the Texas Medical Board and the A.B.I.M. Cardiovascular Disease Boards.

His professional path in medicine began at his father's established practice, Burkett Cardiovascular Associates, in Monroe, Louisiana. He later ventured to open his practice, Burkett Heart Clinic, which now boasts a patient base of about 3,500, drawing individuals from as far as Arkansas and Mississippi. His affiliations have included several notable medical centers such as North Monroe H.C.A. Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and Glenwood Regional Medical Center.

After accumulating substantial experience in private practice, he transitioned to academia, driven by a desire to mentor and educate upcoming healthcare professionals. He served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Director of Cardiology at the L.S.U. School of Medicine's Cardiac/E.P. Catheterization Lab, where he was deeply involved in teaching and advancing cardiological practices.

He pursued his Electrical and Biomedical Engineering undergraduate education at Southern Methodist University (S.M.U.) in Dallas. He then completed his medical degree at LSU HSC School of Medicine in New Orleans, followed by an internship, residency, and Cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
