Btw I competitively ice skate!
I've done it for a little less than most of my life so far.
Yuri!!! On Ice actually inspired me to get back into it after a 2 year break, so now I'm back in training to compete again and don't plan on stopping any time soon.
I am very into YOI and know my shit when it comes to skating, so I'm working on a little something involving all of that.
Now, not to diss on any YOI fanfiction writers but here's the tea:
MOST of them probably don't know what a triple flip or what a toe loop is unless they've seen a youtube video on it, so they throw all of these random terms into a story and think it's fine.
Sorry, sweetie, but that's not how it works.
The amount of effort it takes to make a single program that actually looks good is insane.
The picture I have in my head of the YOI guys skating if I were to see them irl is mind blowing.
Basically, what I'm trying to say here, is if you're going to write a story about something you don't know one thing about, write your basic ideas for the story and then research HARD.
When it comes to other *amateurs* reading the story, you'll come off fine, but every once in a while, an asshole like me will come around and cringe because it's all wrong.
Do your research. Please.
Hell, I do a ton of research for my stories.
My 'To Mars' short story was about space and astronauts in training, aka something I didn't know anything about. But I researched, researched my research, and reread my story multiple times to make sure everything was accurate.
I was writing about an idea I had but about something I knew nothing about. That being said, make the effort to at least have accuracy in the story if you're trying to take it seriously rather than come off like you're an amateur when you are.
You want to at least sound like you know what you're talking about, right?
If yes, reread that sentence above this paragraph.
Thanks.
