I live in County Cork in the south of Ireland.  I usually write poetry, but in 2012 I decided to start a book.  It took me four months to complete. It turned into a trilogy and the last book will be launched later in 2014. I would encourage everybody to write, it's a great hobby and can be very therapeutic.  If you can get paid to do it, that's a bonus.
