BOOK REVIEW TIME!
          Seed by Lisa Heathfield
          • finished 13/12/2022 (taylor swift's bday!)
          • ☆☆☆☆/ 5 stars
          • LISA HEATHFIELD AND HER AMBIGUOUS ENDINGS OML!

          From the blurb:
A story of life lived in a cult. "Trust us" Papa S tells Pearl. And so she does. But Papa S is the leader of the community at Seed where fifteen year old Pearl has lived her whole life - and he's the last person she should trust. It's only when a boy from the forbidden Outside arrives that Pearl begins to realise there is darkness at the heart of Seed. A darkness from which they must escape before it's too late.

          My review:
OH. MY. GOD. I wanted to read this book since I read "Paper Butterflies" by Lisa Heathfield a few years ago and THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT (through the tears of course) and I wanted to explore more of Heathfield's novels. She did not disappoint! She just kept me guessing the whole way through! Parts of the book were a little predictable (I guessed immediately who the person who was speaking between chapters at the beginning of the book, and I had an idea of the basis of the ending) but every time I thought I knew what was going on and exactly what was going to happen, Heathfield took it in a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT direction. She established all of the characters so well and had me loving Jack and Kate immediately and feeling so much gratitude for Ellis even though I wasn't actually IN the book. The ending pulled my heart out, but also left me relieved at the same time, although THIS IS THE SECOND AMBIGUOUS ENDING SHE HAS GIVEN ME NOW, I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AFTER!! From my knowledge of cults and the difficulties in leaving them, I feel that Heathfield portrayed all the emotions and thought processes in the book so well, particularly the denial! An engaging, powerful read; you will be SCREAMING (internally at least) at the characters with what you know and can see. I would so highly recommend reading "Seed", well done to Lisa Heathfield for another brilliant book!

BOOK REVIEW!!
Looking For Alaska by John Green
          • finished 08/11/2022
          • ☆☆☆.5/5 stars

          From the blurb:
Miles Halter's whole life has been one big non-event, until he meets Alaska Young. Gorgeous, clever and undoubtedly screwed up, Alaska draws Miles into her reckless world and irrevocably steals his heart. For Miles, nothing can ever be the same again.

          My Review:
Probably my least favourite of all of the John Green books I have read so far, but still brilliant nonetheless! I don't know if it was just me that found Alaska a bit annoying at times, however, there were also times that she was a complete girlboss! JUSTICE FOR LARA. I LOVED HER SM BUT MILES AND HIS OBSESSION WITH ALASKA GAVE HER LESS THAN SHE DESERVED!! I lowkey ship Takumi and Lara though, I think they'd've been really cute together. The plot of the book was pretty good, I really enjoyed the lead up to the breakthrough that the characters made in the end, but it did feel a little and dragged out at times, and then rushed right at the end. I understand what Takumi and Lara meant when they said they were giving up on "chasing ghosts" after they made the breakthrough but Miles and Chip continued on a pointless journey to discover absolutely nothing of any use to either of them instead of just moving on... I don't know, I guess I just expected a different ending and expected to like Miles and Chip more than I did... I would still recommend the book though, and considering it WAS John Green's debut, he did very well!

BOOK REVIEW TIME!!! (long time no reviews)
          "Emma" by Jane Austen
          • Finished on 28/10/2022
          • ☆☆☆☆☆/5 stars
          • ARGH THE ENDING IS SO CUTE

My copy of the book doesn't have a blurb apart from waffling about Austen's view of Emma so I'll leave that bit out of this one (but I'm sure Amazon or somewhere has a good overview!!)

          My Review: SPOILER ALERT!!!

JANE AUSTEN REMAINS MY FAVOURITE AUTHOR!! I JUST LOVE HER TO PIECES OML. I really really enjoyed "Emma" and I found that I related to the titular character quite a bit in many ways, and Mrs Weston OMG DON'T GET ME STARTED ON MRS WESTON, I LOVED HER! I loved Mr Knightley's educated opinions and disputes with Emma, and often found myself actually agreeing with him over her (sorry not sorry) and I absolutely could not have predicted the ending. Mrs Elton did not stop getting on my nerves the entire way through the book (like girl, stfu you're not that important), but I loved Miss Bates; she reminded me of my Great Aunt a lot!! Of course I absolutely fell in love with Mr Knightley, probably equally as much as I did with Mr Darcy (Pride and Prejudice), but "Emma" just ever so slightly missed the edge that "P&P" has for me; I enjoyed the complete turn around of regard between Elizabeth and Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice", whereas, despite their arguments and disagreements, Emma and Knightley had been "well acquainted" ever since the former's youth, and so, "Emma" comes in at a close second favourite book to "Pride and Prejudice"! I would recommend "Emma" to anybody who has enjoyed any of Austen's other novels, but I feel that it would most appeal to anybody who has a bit of an obsession with the old style of love (like myself), and all my match makers out there who never actually see themselves with anyone #relatablecontent xx). Overall, a brilliant novel, WELL DONE JANE AUSTEN!!!
