            oh ..  i didn’t realize you were awake.   [  words fill the silent air,  only the sound of the occasional muffled police sirens going off in the distance.  each step she made was silent and calculated.  slender fingers wrap around a glass of water as she makes her way back towards the bed they share.  ]    do you want me to get another blanket?    [  she crawls atop of the bed beside him after setting her drink on the nightstand. her fingertips gently brush his hair away.  ]  

fine, but that stake in the wall was strike one. three strikes and i’m tearing his head off.

don’t give me that look. [ jack scoffs as he averts his gaze, lips pressing together in a forced frown. his eyes gave it away— she’d won, as always but still he insisted. ] you’re gonna have to force it out of me.

            oh?    [   she pauses,  giving him a small smile.  her hands clasp behind her back,  her head tilting to the side as she looks up to him.   ]    are you going to tell me what that reason is or do i have to get it out of you? 

really? [ he asks, a hum follows in thought, trying to hide his own smile. ] maybe i didn’t like the way he was looking at you when we walked in and maybe, there was a reason i threw my arm around you like that.
