──   never say thank you to them. this phrase is taken as you’re  indebted to them. instead, use phrases like “i’m grateful.” 
            
            ──   never lie to a fae. they hate liars, as they themselves cannot directly lie.
            
            ──   always keep your word when dealing with them. they hate cheats or those who cannot keep their word.
            
            ──   never accept gifts from a fae you do not trust. however, when it comes to trading with the fae, remember that gifting does not come freely.
            
            ──   don’t spy on them or capture their likeness without permission. the fae like privacy and secrets, those that can’t honor either of those may be subjected to dangerous encounters.
            
            ──   never give them your name, full or otherwise. if a fae asks for a humanoids name and they say it, they’re giving them power and partial control over them. on the flip side, if the humanoid knows the fae’s name and says it, they can potentially bind the fae in service to them.
            
            ──   never stand in a fairy ring. known as rings of mushrooms that sometimes grow where a tree has died, they’re also portals that highly powerful fae have created to the realm of the fae world. time also moves much differently in the fae world; centuries could pass outside, while seconds pass inside. 
            
            ──   one must be polite when dealing with the fae at all times (not saying thank you is an exception). being inhospitable and selfish are frowned upon among the fae.
