april is autism awareness/acceptance month. as someone who was diagnosed with high-functioning autism about 5 years ago, this month is so incredibly important to me. being autistic isnt just 'vocal stims' or 'special interests' or being 'overstimulated'. these are words used in modern day media, mostly used by people who are neurotypical. autism is a real thing that people struggle with every single day of their lives. just a month isnt nearly enough to make people aware of just how deep autism goes. being autistic is a battle i fight every. single. day. and im so extremely proud of how far i've come since my diagnosis. i continue to learn more about myself and my diagnosis every day, and i think that is so important. so remember. a diagnosis doesnt ever define you, no matter what it is. it doesnt make you any less of a person. it doesnt make you less than anyone else. it makes you unique. it makes you, you. autism isnt a joke on the media. its a real struggle that so many people battle everyday. but we are still human. <3
