I have excellent news: the next chapter for my cringe ass Herobrine X reader fanfiction is the sex one. im writing sex. and theyre gonna kiss and everythibg
bad news, though: as it turns out, I am not very good at writing gender-neutral smut. I worry that if I leave everything too vague and up-for-interpretation it would be a confusing and boring chapter, and generally difficult to read.
My options are: 1) prioritise one sex and assume all readers fit into that, which I am unwilling to do. It’s rare enough to find X-Reader fics that are truly gender-ambiguous, most fics it seems assume the reader is female, and while I don’t fault female writers for writing what they know, not being included in fanfics drives me a bit bonkers quite frankly.
Option 2) is to write two different chapters for either sex (while still keeping pronouns neutral), which still isn’t ideal for a number of reasons. Without getting into the nuance of gender and sex being nonlinear, AND the conversation about being top or bottom, I am a bit of a lazy sod and I fear if I had to write four versions of the same chapter you lot would have to wait like two years
Option 3) is to just write whatever the fuck I feel like writing, since there are no stakes here and realistically this is not that deep because I’m writing in a dead fandom for an audience smaller than the average AA meeting
Anyway I’d like to hear some thoughts on this, a large portion of the chapter is written anyway, I’m just stuck on descriptors for the body of a gender-universal self-insert placeholder. At the end of the day there will always be some aspects of a Y/N that I don’t even think to account for, which is a shame but what can you do
