EXCERPT FROM THE OMEGA VIRUS (conversation between Callum Sommerset and Jared...Mercy's son one of the hardest scenes I've written thus far)
"I'm going to turn bad, aren't I"
The man swallows hard, opens his mouth to speak, shuts it again--several times--then finally finds words.
"For a little while you will be like them, but I'm going to make you a promise son, and I always keep my promises. Will you trust me?"
"Yes." Jared whispers softly, his big blue eyes looking up at him are brimming with tears that he doesn't let flow.
"Good. I'm going to tell you something Jared. Those tears trapped in your eyes...free them. A brave man is brave enough to cry." He is so gentle as he touches my boy's cheeks just as the first tear slips free. A tear strolls down his cheeks too and my heart feels like it is burning from a raging fire. "Your mommy and I will find the cure. When we do, you'll be the first to get it. I promise. Do you understand?"
"Yes." Hope flickers in my baby's eyes.
