Perhaps he was right, but what she was searching for wasn't so easy to find, not even for her. How could one find peace in a world like hers? She had held it once, in the past, before her life had been flipped upside down, before violence had seeped through, staining everything it touch. "Because how often do creatures like myself truly find peace in this world?" she asked, regarding the man in front of her.

I don't think it's something you could help me find. I appreciate the gesture though.

⠀⠀⠀ you’ve struck a most dangerous bargain with the devil.. and yet i can’t help but wonder whether it’s utter foolishness or a stroke of cunning.

"Then I fall," she answered simply, as if it was the only answer that made sense. "Because in the end, isn't it worth it to know that the people that you love are alive and well?" She had been doing that her entire life. Nothing had changed now. And Hayley... her sister deserved a chance as well, no matter what others may have thought. Especially now, after everything she had been through.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ “even if it means setting yourself ablaze?” rurik asked. somehow, what she said.. it twisted in his chest, sparking a interest he didn’t want to name. his fingers itched to reach, but he stayed still, leaning just enough to let the words settle between them, thick and dangerous. “and if you fall,” he murmured, voice a low timber, “who catches you then?”

Sometimes when you're desperate, you have to undertake foolish measures. And when you're that desperate to save people you care about, very little else matters.

⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ * ⠀ A FROWN CREPT UP HIS FEATURES, SILVER BROWS FURROWING AT HER. kazik had taken the liberty to help the woman, though not without cost. his curiosity was a torch he could not snuff. he paced before the hearth of the old stone library, its walls lined with dust-thick tomes and smoke-stained banners. the paper in his hand—⎯⎯coarse, yellowed, and freshly nailed to the town’s northern post that morning—was now damp from snowmelt.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀a wanted poster. reward promised in silver coin for a fae sighting, rare and dangerous to any common man who dared interfere. he paused, boots heavy on the creaking oak floor, his gaze low. kazik knew well what kind of things slipped through the cracks of winter bound mountain towns. beasts and beings not born of man. things best left untouched. HIS PALE GREY EYES ROSE AGAIN, LOCKING ON HER FACE.

⠀⠀⠀ “are you hunting this creature, or.. something else?” he tilted his head, the firelight licking the sharp cut of his jaw. “i’m just a physician,” he lied, voice smooth as cut steel, the words spoken without hesitation. not even a blink. there was something she wasn’t saying—-he could tell by the way her hands folded too neatly in her lap, the way her eyes never quite settled on one thing for too long. she moved through this world as though it was familiar.. but not hers. “is there something you’d like to tell me?”

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀ conán sensed something was off about the way she answered. somehow, the air in the quiet library thickened, heavy with unspoken hesitation. she had clearly pondered before he received a reply. what was this madness? his pale eyes drifted to the hearth, the soft cackling flames offering a small, reluctant warmth. neatly folding the wanted poster, his fingers traced the edges faintly, deliberate, before sliding it into the inner pocket of his coat. a subtle shift of his shoulders, a quiet inhale—-just enough to remind the room who held control.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “i assure you, my lady, i know /quite/ enough to speak of matters not many mortals dare entertain.” he paused, letting the silence stretch. his gaze sharpened, cold as frost against the firelight. “and,” his tone cut quietly but firmly, “i disagree. you’re here for a reason. out of all the places.. you chose this.”

Ending up in situations like this had never been her intent. Leah avoided them where she could, never one to tackle something that was better left alone. That was more her sister's style. But apparently trouble seemed to find her, no matter what she did to try and stay out of it. The question caught her off guard, glancing up sharply at the accuser, eyes narrowed slightly. Hunting, like some sort of mindless, savage creature. Sure, she supposed she could have been at times, one of the downfalls of what she was. "I have no idea what you're talking about," she replied, her voice a little soft, even within the stone walls that would have usually muffled sound. She truly had no idea what the man was asking, though from his scent, she wasn't entirely sure man was the right word. It was like nothing the hybrid has ever smelled before, and that made her a little uneasy. The only reason she was in this damned library was because her sister had sent her, citing something about it holding a book that Klaus needed for whatever nefarious reason. That was it. "For a physician, you certainly ask a lot of questions about things most wouldn't know of," she pointed out. "Hunting something? Not entirely a common place question, wouldn't you agree?"

          - leah never triggered her wolf while she was alive. Unlike most, she managed to have control over her temper and prevented herself from lashing out.
          - this changed after Klaus Mikaelson turned her into a vampire. After becoming a vampire, she lost control for the first time, finally triggering her werewolf gene and becoming a hybrid in a similar manner to Klaus.
          - she's never really seen eye to eye with the Mikaelsons. She doesn't like what they've done to her sister and others.
          - she had a silly little secret crush on Marcel, but she never mentioned it to anyone, not even Hayley, knowing that he was chasing after Cami.
          - she never wanted to stay in New Orleans but she ended up getting stuck in the middle of the vampire drama and found herself unable to leave
          - despite being a hybrid, she's not overly fond of using that to her advantage. While she doesn't loathe what she is, she also just wants to be somewhat normal
