We had to put down our dog today.. I knew it was coming, and I thought I was prepared, but f-ing heck it hurts. Like I keep looking up expecting him to be there, then I realize that he's not, and he won't ever be there again..

My family's dog is very old, mostly blind, mostly deaf, will barely eat or drink, and is only not in pain when we give him aspirin. My brother and I agree that it would be best to take him to the vet and have him put down so that he's no longer miserable. Explaining that to my mom, however, would be nearly impossible. She's hoping that he'll just die in his sleep. It really upsets me to think that we're letting him suffer when there's something we can do about it. I don't know what to do because I know that no matter what I say my mom won't want to have him put down.
