thought of the day: if concealer/acne-covering products didn’t rly exist, would acne still be a common insecurity?
i feel that the fact that a product exists to cover up acne sorta insinuates that there’s something ‘wrong’ with having acne in the first place. yk? why cover up acne if there isn’t anything ‘wrong’ with it?
and sure, people nowadays get judged for having red bumps on their face but i doubt that was a natural human response a couple hundred years ago. we’ve sorta been conditioned to idealize clear skin and look at acne as something to be ashamed of.
and what’s so hypocritical is these big makeup brands are like “feel beautiful in your own skin” while profiting off of others insecurities. they’re basically saying “you’ll only feel beautiful if you cover up your face”
it’s like if a plastic surgeon said “you should love every part of yourself but i’m going to make you feel ashamed for having small t!ts. allow me to benefit off of the insecurities i created for you!”
anyway, i could talk about shit like this for hours but i have an essay to get back to <33
