          I set the story in California and in Liberia, where I served as a Peace Corps teacher at Holy Cross Mission in the remote village of Bolahun.
          
          The story includes my experiences there woven into the narrative, and real people have inspired my characters.
          
          I'm glad that a Filipina enjoys my story.
