/ spoilers for sotr but this is currently infecting my brain..
          
          thinking abt haymitch and how when the years go by, all of their faces blur together even more. especially louella and lou lou. he wants to believe he can remember both of them, remember what makes them different. but he can’t.
          
          and as the years go on, every time he steps onto a train on reaping day — on his birthday — he can’t help but think of the four people he came on the train with. and the coffins he came back with when it was all over.

001. struggled a lot at first when he had to mentor tributes. every time one of them died in front of him, a pang would hit him in the chest. even if all he knew were their names.
            
            especially the first time he mentored them. freshly seventeen, stepping onto the train on his own birthday. every time, he would think about the first time he’d ever had to step onto a capitol train.
            
            and every time, he remembered all of the names of the people he he lost in that arena. louella. wyatt. maysilee.
            
            even lou lou, who wasn’t /truly/ his sweetheart. lou lou, who looked so, so much like her. and when he drinks these feelings away, who is it he’s staring at?
            
            he won’t ever know anymore.
