Hi everyone,
I wanted to just say that I am well and in a better headspace than I was previously, and I want to thank everyone who reached out. Now that those matters are dealt with, I want to encourage everyone to avoid the Open Novella Contest, or ONC. In the part about rights, the official rules have some predatory clauses.
For example, they ask you to waive your natural moral rights to your projects, so Wattpad (now the sponsor of ONC) can alter content or use it without needing to notify you, the author, while you forfeit right to compensation. It is ludicrous to demand that anyone relinquish their natural moral rights to their creative work.
The prizes for winning aren't worth this sacrifice, as second place is only worth $5 (one month of WP Premium) and $60 (one year). A novella is worth much more than this cumulatively, as $60 would roughly only be about 12 sales if you were to self-publish it.
This behavior wasn't excusable in the Ambys, and it's not excusable here. Your work is worth much more than this.
