What affectionate term for mother should I use in writing? I’m horrendously English so I don’t want to use mom, but I don’t say mum because I’m from the north east, but most Americans might not get mam and mistake it for ma’am or something, which then means it’s not an affectionate term for mother anymore and some clinical strict relationship instead. But I call my own mother ma.

As a reader do you find a less commonly used word like mam would disrupt your flow of reading or confuse you? Wtf should I use man

@frownysmiles maybe mama or ma? it seems more like an earthy wholehearted name someone would call their mum, yknow? mam seems a little bit odd especially since i'm american and as you said it'll prolly be mixed up easily with ma'am. mama is a bit more childish but i think it's the most affectionate choice

never gonna give you up
          never gonna let you down
never gonna run around and hurt you
          never gonna make you cry
          never gonna say goodbye
never gonna tell a lie and desert you
