So....I wrote 35k words of this in the third POV in 2022 - read it today - hated it. Rewrote it all in first POV. Why am I like this?

Help me with this - I had a huge argument with a friend who is a 'book lover'. The argument is, I say - true book lovers HATE lending books from their personal collection to anyone and if the book isn't returned - it is a CRIME. 
          My friend insists that not all book lovers are like that and books once returned are not expected to be returned. 
          The comment made my blood boil. What are your thoughts? Help me!
