My Shakespearean professor hates it when I express my favoritism towards Milton rather than Shakespeare— but Milton was a bad ass. He went to prison for his ideals, wrote Eve as one of the most iconic feminist, wrote a sus pastoral poem about a man loving another man so much that flowers no longer seemed beautiful when he wasn’t around, humanized Satan despite being a puritan, and was blind— Shakespeare… listen, Shakespeare is great. But in my humble opinion, Milton was iconic. Wrote Italian sonnets so good that after them, he never wrote sonnets again— God… John Milton is a gift from God.

I can’t talk to anyone outside my Renaissance lit classes about these authors. They’re all modernist and I love that too— but my God. I want to cry to someone about John Milton, Christopher Marlowe, John Donne, Spenser, that one Stoic writer— God I’m forgetting his name. But the philosophies too I mean— the whole idea of Platonism and Platonic Love versus Stoicism and what not. It’s beautiful.
