Random update about lore in my FEA fic:
"Staves" are the staffs or other tools that healers carry for the sole purpose of, well, healing. "Spells" are the magic performed by staffs or tomes, usually summoned on-the-spot in a variety of ways, such as mentally, with certain incantations, or by channeling the spell through certain ingredients. "Slips" are, essentially, the instant noodles of the magical world. They are spells that have been prepared beforehand, then bound to a slip of paper that usually has the kind of spell and other specifications written on it, hence the name. They are then ready to be cast immediately by a trigger motion, word, or other stimuli, which is also specified in the binding of the slip. While this can be done with literally any spell, it is usually done for certain spells that require a long preparation time or fragile ingredients and therefore are inconvenient to be used on demand. The paper does not disappear after use, though it has lost the magical power stored within; but it is considered good practice to burn the slips after they have been emptied, as disposing of items with magical traces on them in most conventual ways will not remove said traces. This is so the remnants of the spell will not interfere with any magical procedures involving or happening near the useless slip.
