Why it's important to the story:
Ayame, Kira's wife, was the secret keeper of the mirror, a member of the family line who has protected it generation after generation.
Raiju wants the mirror to learn what really happened to his father and to break the enemy's myths.
Kira's brother, Kento, sought it to prove his worth and create a false legitimacy for his new rule.
But more importantly:
Kira himself will face a bitter moment when he later sees the truth in the mirror...
He discovers that part of Ayame's death was his own fault—for disobeying her warnings and, without realizing it, opening the door to his brother's betrayal.
