I highly recommend "Heaven has no favorites" by the German writer Erich Maria Remarque. It have that "blood rush" type of race somewhere in the end of the book. Maybe it will help a little bit with feeling the mood.
@TrevSG For now, as far as I read, I liked countdown before the race. It was simple paragraph, but had that little "blood rush". Of course, your chapter was short, I think it could've been a little bit longer but it's okay this way too.
