Their Thief: Redemption - Epilogue (Part 3) New Jun 17, 2023 * * * The sound of rustling leaves reached my ears while the wind that created the noise blew strands of my loose hair over my cheek. I brushed them behind my ear as I looked up through the tree we sat under. The thick crown that shaded us kept the sight of the clear blue skies above hidden. That didn’t stop the heat of summer air from warming my skin which welcomed the cooling kiss of the breeze. My eyes slowly closed shut as a moan of pleasure escaped past my lips. Alec’s attentive thumbs took the sound as the encouragement it was and continued to press into the soles of my feet that rested in his lap. I relaxed further against the soft cushion that protect me from the rough bark of the tree I was resting against. Shrill screams sounded through the air and had me cracking my eye open, but there was no urgency in the move. I knew that sound, it was a regular occurrence that my ears loved and hated at the same time. I loved the joy and happiness it expressed but hated the way it sometimes left my ears ringing and my head aching. Though, the smile and happiness that accompanied it made it worth it. Laughter followed, continuing to fill the summer evening as it had been for the last hour that we had been enjoying the beautiful weather while Luca continued to put some wear on his beloved outdoor kitchen. He had insisted on having it built for the summer last year and had used it at every opportunity he could. That led to having more dinners outside on the patio, something I couldn’t complain about given how much I loved those nights when measures were taken to keep bugs away. Currently, he was working through a new recipe book he had gotten, making dishes I had never heard of from cuisines that were also as mysterious but nonetheless still delicious. I didn’t think it was possible for Luca to make a bad dish. I was a lucky woman.

My heart skipped a beat as he leaned over and took a deep inhale at my neck. “You also smell different. Like you’re drowned in my scent,” he practically purred. “I could get used to it.” My face heated. I pushed him away. Despite the frown that pulled at my lips, a bit of the weight on my shoulders lifted. Just like it had that night when he had learned the same secret all that time ago. “Do you always have to ruin the surprise?” THE END A/N: Thank you all for reading Their Thief! Next week I will be starting a new series and am excited to get to start from scratch!

Knowing they wouldn’t last forever had my smile turning bittersweet. My baby was growing up so fast. Like she loved to announce every time I slipped up and referred to her as that, she ‘wasn’t a baby,’ not anymore. It was like I had blinked and she had turned four. Another blink and it would be time for her to start school. Soon she would become a moody teenager then hopefully a well-rounded young woman and adult. My eyes once again shut as Alec’s thumb pressed into my foot “Don’t stop,” I moaned lightly to Alec’s pleasure-filled amusement. The sound of his soft chuckles had me relaxing further like a sweet symphony. He didn’t know I had to enjoy the comforts I currently felt while they still lasted. “You seemed a bit stressed lately,” Alec nonchalantly commented. I couldn’t stop my body from stiffening. I knew him well enough to know the tone he was using. Sweetly deceptive. “Being a mother isn’t exactly easy.” I retorted, swallowing hard as I forced my body to relax under Alec’s ministrations. And it was only going to get harder. Just when I thought I had evaded his attempt to get answers that I had only discovered myself yesterday, he proved me wrong for doubting his persistence. “What did we discuss about keeping secrets, kitten?” The lowered tone of his voice had my mouth growing dry. He couldn’t know… not when I only discovered it myself… “I’m not keeping any secre-“ He clicked his tongue disapprovingly as he cut me off. “Lies too, now?” He shook his head. But of course, nothing would get past Alec. Not even a pregnancy test that I had taken at Max and Vince’s the other night, making sure to dispose of it there properly. But clearly not properly enough. While one hand continued to press his thumb into my foot soothingly, the other reached into his pocket to pull out the white plastic stick that left me caught red-handed.

A soft smile situated itself onto my lips as I watched Jace chase after our daughter, eliciting more shrieks and protests laced with amusement when he caught her in the air mid-step, something that was impossible for me to reach her to do. While she never failed to outrun me, her fathers were in a whole different league when it came to chasing her. Frustration and lacking abilities led me to appreciate the three in a way I hadn’t thought I would have needed to four years ago. Not before Isabelle had arrived to prove that I needed them in more ways than I had ever expected I would. It was difficult to wrangle in a fussing toddler when she had the capability to give you a black eye. I needed them. And I would continue to need them. It was a good thing I wanted them. Jace swept Isabelle up before she could run into the lake without a care for her clothes or that she had just gotten changed from the set she had already soaked while playing in the water earlier. Or that it was almost time to eat the delicious-smelling dinner her dad was making. Opposite to the frown she wore on her face as he carried her away from the edge of the water despite her protests, a slight smile tugged at my lips knowing he wouldn’t hear the end of his interference for the rest of the day. Until she found something more exciting to occupy her racing mind. “Mommy! Mommy!” Isabelle screamed as Jace spun her around on his shoulders. There was no distress in her voice, only happiness as she called for my attention. The relaxed smile on my face grew to stretch my lips and ball my cheeks. I loved days like these.
