i’ve been writing for it but i just don’t have time to fully commit myself! i volunteer a lot on top of school (senior year) and i’m stage manager for our theatre and i’m focusing on studies so i can actually pay for college with scholarships and i don’t want to be distracted by writing even though it is my passion

I’ve read so many fan fictions where there’s the classic trope of an absent parent. It was fine but after a while, many writers started saying “oh yeah the mother has bipolar, that’s why she’s crazy” or “oh the dad has depression and ptsd so that’s why he drinks,” and they write off those issues as if anyone that suffers from that will be a bad parent. 
          
          bipolar does not equal craziness
          
          depression does not equal drug abuse
          
          ptsd does not equal alcoholism
          
          constantly using mental health as a reason why a character in a fanfiction is a bad parent or friend is disgusting. stop using mental health as a pass to demonize people struggling.

@rosiecheeksandcoffee  Thank you! People can have these things and still function normally. What is it with everyone thinking that mental health disorders affect how you act? Yes, sometimes they do, but most of the time they have little to no effect on your behavior.
